[Paranoid Schizophrenic]

I'm Craig. They just let me out of the psyche ward. No more voices. I'm kind of into the weird and paranormal. I've always wanted to check out that creepy house down the street.

Sophia bit her bottom lip. Could Tate be a incubus? He was attractive all right, and it didn’t take long for her to fall for him. But incbi were demon, meaning they were soulless. Tate definitely had a soul, at least, she hoped he did. Sophia let out a huff of frustration. “Okay, okay,” she muttered. “Thank you. I’m sorry I bothered you, I won’t do it again.” She gave him a sucked in smile. “It was nice getting to know you. Sorry things didn’t work out.” She held out her hand for goodbye handshake, an “I’m-sorry-I’m-asking-you-stupid-questions-about-ghosts-because-I-think-I’ve-been-knocked-up-by-a-ghost” farewell.

Truth be told, Craig didn’t really stop believing in the supernatural. He simply decided he would be willfully ignorant and ignore the strange going on around him, dismissing it as symptoms of his condition. But Sophia. Sophia looked like she needed help. He felt guilty for being unreasonably upset with her. Craig was going to regret this. “Look I’m still not sure what happened the other night, but if this is really bothering you, I’ll come by again and check the house out. If I genuinely thought that place was haunted, I wouldn’t have brought an ouija board anywhere near it.” In essence, what happened that night was his fault after all. He felt like he owed Sophia “My dad tosses a lot of money at me to make sure I leave him alone. I’ll rent out that room in your house. I won’t live there, but at least that way I can come and go out of there whenever. If that house is as haunted as you think it is, it’s not gonna settle down overnight.”

Sophia bit her bottom lip, crossing her arms tightly across her chest. They were harmful if they were strong, and she knew in her gut that the spirits in the Murder House weren’t just floating little orbs. “Please research it,” she begged. “I need to get rid of them. Especially with my brother being sick. He’s vulnerable.” Sophia wondered if they would target him because of that; didn’t they prey on the weak? When he talked about “getting freaky with a phantom”, Sophia blushed. “I’m just…I’m just curious is all,” she lied. “Can they?” It was an important question; it was a stupid idea that was playing in the back of her mind, ever since she had gotten sick. She wouldn’t be, she couldn’t be, it was impossible. Or was it?

Craig didn’t believe her answer but since he didn’t actually believe in the paranormal anymore, what did he care if Sophia was convinced she might get knocked up by a ghost. “Well I’m not totally sure but there are legends of the incubi. Those are handsome malevolent spirits who seduce women. Legends of pregnancy from an incubus are even rarer because they usually murder whoever they seduce.” At one point Craig thought Hayden may be a succubi. Then he abandoned all superstition in place of medication. It was taking a toll on Craig’s body. His skin was paler and sicklier than ususual.

Even though Craig claimed he no longer wanted anything to do with the paranormal, he still agreed to help her. She smiled at him. “Thank you so much!” she said. She swallowed. “There are a few things I want to know. First, is there anyway you can get rid of the spirits? Or at least keep them at bay? Secondly, can they hurt you? And lastly…” Sophia’s heart pumped. She thought of all the moments she had with Tate; the one’s were she was floating on cloud nine and she felt all the love in the world in her heart. “Lastly, can a ghost impregnate a human being?” She looked at him, her lips pulled down in a frown, her eyes wide.

Craig scratched the back of his head. He really felt uncomfortable thinking about the paranormal once more. “Getting rid of spirits? That’s a hard one. I’d have to do some research. Injuries, unfortunately yeah. If it’s a weak spirit, it’ll only be able to inflict cuts and bruises. More powerful ones can manifest to cause harm the way you or I could. It takes a lot of energy to be violent so I wouldn’t expect any unless the hauntings get more restless.” Craig raised his eyebrows at the last question. He looked at Sophia suspiciously. He had to fight to suppress a smile. What the hell was she suggesting? “I don’t know. Planning on getting freaky with a phantom?” What was going through Sophia’s mind?

Sophia winced at Craig’s harsh tone. Yup, he was still angry at her. She sighed. “Please, Craig,” she began. “I’m sorry about what happened. I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I wasn’t making fun of you, honest. I believe you.” She looked at him seriously. “I need your help, Craig. You know more about all this paranormal stuff than I do. I don’t think it’s your head, and I don’t think you’re crazy. Please, help me.” He was her last hope.

Craig raised an eyebrow. “Did you not hear me? I don’t believe in any of it anymore. It’s all bullshit. I’m done messing with that shit. Only leads to trouble.” The night of the incident, Craig threw out anything and everything that dealt with the supernatural. He wanted to be rid of it all. He had just gotten out to reestablish his life. He couldn’t have it falling apart again. Craig sighed as he saw the pleading look on Sophia’s face. “Alright. Lets say I’ll humor you and I’ll pretend I do believe in this shit. What do you want to know?” He felt like he would regret this last statement very soon.
